Let alone Justice, Where Will
Peace Come From?
When Palestinians spoke
unequivocally through the ballot
by voting Hamas into power back
in 2006, Condoleezza Rice
announced: “Our position on
Hamas has therefore note
changed.” Hers was a reference
to the US policy that refuses to
recognise Hamas, rather,
classifying the resistance
movement as a “terrorist”
organization.
A scenario
akin to a worst case one, at
least to Fatah, has now emerged
with 99% of the votes counted
and a strengthening of the
right-wing becoming obvious.
The Fatah-dominated
Palestinian Authority said in an
official statement earlier
Tuesday that it would work with
any government Israel elects, as
long as it is committed to the
peace process. However, Fatah
believes that any right-wing
dominated Knesset will simply
strengthen Hamas.
Could
this be an unwitting and
indirect recognition (on the
part of Fatah) of Hamas’ strong
stance in demanding the stop to
illegal settlements, roadblocks,
and all the things the Zionists
stands for?
What does the
outcome of this election tell us
about the Israeli population?
Hamas’ Fawzi Barhoum observes:
“… Zionist voters clearly start
choosing the one who is most
extreme in his speech, the one
who wants war with the
Palestinians…"
And the
‘peace process’?
Rice had
told the world: "You can't have
a peace process if you're not
committed to the right of your
partner to exist."
Yet
today, Israel, will probably
have a Likud-led government
propped by racists such as
Avigdor Lieberman who even
rejects the notion of
Israeli-Arabs as compatriots. In
his own words, “"When there is a
contradiction between democratic
and Jewish values, the Jewish
and Zionist values are more
important…"
If this is
the new-face of ‘negotiating
partners’ with Palestinians, let
alone justice, where will peace
come from?
Zimbabwe: Is it a True New Dawn?
Arch-foes faced
each other today as one
administered an oath of office
for another. Like a lamb brought
together with a leopard, Morgan
Tsvangirai is now Zimbabwe’s PM
with Robert Mugabe as president.
The world has been holding
its breath since Tsvangirai
announced that he would go along
with a Southern Africa
Development Community resolution
that he goes into government. To
the disappointment of many,
round after round of talks
faltered before and proved false
starts for the beleaguered
nation with scepticism becoming
a virtue in this matter.
Now that it has come to this, we
wish the people of Zimbabwe
every success in order to
rebuild and restore their nation
to its place among nations with
unity and prosperity. |

Brotherhood |
From Abu Hurairah
Radhi-Allahu anhu who said
that Allah's Messenger
Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
said: “A man went out to
visit a brother of his in a
different village, so Allah,
the Most High, put an angel
in wait for him in the road.
So when the angel came to
him he said: ‘Where are you
going?’ He said: ‘I am going
to visit a brother in this
village.’ He said: ‘Is it
that you have done something
for him for which you seek
repayment?’ He said: ‘No, it
is just that I love him for
Allah's sake.’ He said:
‘Then I am one sent by Allah
to you (to inform you) that
Allaah, the Mighty and
Majestic, loves you, just as
you have loved for His
sake.’” (Muslim)

Q and A |
Question: In a
Hadith it
has been mentioned that when
visiting someone then take
permission three times and
if not given then return
back. I would like to know
if its permissible,
Haraam,
Makrooh
Tahreemi, or
Makrooh
Tanzihi to
knock on someone’s door more
than three times? If a
visitor thinks that someone
inside did not hear the 3
knocks, then is it
permissible to knock more
than three times? |
Answer:
Basically, the first knock
(or Salaam) is to announce
one's presence, the second
is to give the dweller of
the house the opportunity to
decide whether he should
admit the visitor and the
third is to ascertain
whether he is permitted to
enter or not. [Mirqaat Vol.
9 Pg. 70 and Pg. 72]
Therefore, if one believes
that the dwellers of the
house did not hear him at
the door then he will be
permitted to further seek
his attention.
And
Allâh Ta’âla Knows Best.

The Verse of the Throne |
“Allah! There is no
God but He, the Living,
the Self-subsisting,
Eternal. No slumber can
seize Him nor sleep. His
are all things in the
heavens and on earth.
Who is there can
intercede in His
presence except as He
permits? He knows what
is (apparent to His
creatures as) before or
after them.
Nor
shall they encompass
anything of His
knowledge except as He
wills. His Throne
extends over the heavens
and the earth, and He
experiences no fatigue
in guarding and
preserving them for
He is the Most High, the
Supreme (in glory).”
(2:255)
• The
books of Hadith have
described the above Ayah
as ‘the greatest verse
in the Book of Allah.’
Why should it not be so,
when tremendous virtues
have been associated
with it? Imam Ahmad has
recorded that ‘Ubayy bin
Ka’b radhiyallahu anhu
said that Rasulullah
sallallahu alayhi
wasalam asked him about
the greatest verse in
the Book of Allah, and
he answered, ‘Allah and
His Messenger know
better.’ When Rasulullah
sallallahu alayhi
wasalam repeated his
question several times,
‘Ubayy said, ‘Ayah
Al-Kursi.’ Rasulullah
sallallahu alayhi
wasalam commented,
‘Congratulations for
having being blessed
with knowledge, O Abu
Al-Mundhir! By Him in
whose control is my
soul! This verse has a
tongue and two lips with
which it praises the
King (Allah) next to the
pillar of the Allah’s
Throne.’ (Muslim and
Ahmad)
• In
another narration Imam
Ahmad has recorded that
Asma’ bint Yazid bin
As-Sakan said, ‘I have
heard Rasulullah
sallallahu alayhi
wasalam saying that the
following two verses
contain Allah’s Greatest
Name: “Allah! None has
the right to be
worshipped but He, the
Ever Living, the One Who
sustains and protects
all that exists…(2:255)”
and, “Alif-Laam-Meem.
Allah! None has the
right to be worshipped
but He, the Ever Living,
the One Who sustains and
protects all that
exists…(3:1-2)” (Abu
Dawud, At-Tirmidhi)
Concerning the greatest
name of Allah, we learn
from another narration,
Rasulullah sallallahu
alayhi wasalam said,
‘Allah’s Greatest Name
is such that if one
supplicates using it,
Allah answers the
supplication…’ (Ibn
Marduwyah)
•
Among the many issues
discussed in this
magnanimous verse is the
subject of intercession
before Allah. These
verses assert Allah’s
greatness, pride, grace,
and that no one dares to
intercede before Him on
behalf of anyone else
except by His
permission. Indeed, the
Hadith about the
intercession, states
that Rasulullah
sallallahu alayhi
wasalam said, ‘I will
stand at the Throne (on
the Day of Qiyamah) and
fall in prostration, and
Allah will allow me to
remain in that position
as long as He wills. I
will thereafter be told,
‘Raise your head, speak
and you will be heard,
intercede and your
intercession will be
accepted.’ (Ibn Kathir)
• The verse of
Ayah Al-Kursi describes
the Oneness of Allah’s
being and attributes in
a unique manner. He is
living, he hears and
sees, He speaks, He is
self-existent, He is
eternal and everlasting,
He is the creator of the
universe, He is above
everthing, the
everlasting, He is the
creator of the entire
universe. He is above
change and effects. He
is the Maser of the
whole universe. He is so
exalted in His Majesty
that no one can speak
before Him without His
permission; he is the
wielder of such absolute
power that the
tremendous function of
creating the universe,
sustaining it and making
it work steadily, does
not cause him to tire or
relax. So all
encompassing is his
knowledge that not the
most minute possible
atom or drop, open or
hidden, could stay out
of it. This is the brief
core sense of the verse.
• We have been
encouraged in a Hadith
of Bukhari to recite
this verse before
retiring to bed. By
doing so, Allah will
appoint an angel as a
guard by your side
throughout the night, so
that no Shaytan will
come near you until
morning.
• It
would be an honour for
any Muslim in any part
of the world, to utter
with his lips the words
of the Holy Qur’an. The
ultimate honour would be
to utter the best of the
verses of the very same
Qur’an.
• Many
are aware of the effect
of the devil, who
whispers evil in homes,
creating disunity and
harm to the inmates of
the house. The words of
Rasulullah sallallahu
alayhi wasalam make
mention that the devil
leaves the home wherein
this verse is recited.
What greater protection
and assurance against
our open enemy?
•
Many deeds which are
carried out with
steadfastness have
amazing rewards.
Rasulullah sallallahu
alayhi wasalam said, ‘If
someone recites Ayah Al
Kursi after every Fardh
Salah, nothing stops him
from entering Paradise
except death.

Which of the Signs
of Our Lord will we Deny? |
A cursory glance allows
us to survey a world in
turmoil and mayhem.
Earthquakes, floods, fires,
tornadoes, hurricanes, and
other ‘natural disasters’
have become common. Strange
sicknesses have emerged.
Resources are becoming
scarce and deaths have
increased manifold.
Muslims have suffered many
injustices and oppressions
in various parts of the
world. The world continues
to heap cruelty and
subjugation upon Muslims
with no near end in sight.
Tens of thousands have died,
hundreds of thousands
injured and millions have
been displaced.
On
the home front, many Muslims
have been victims of crime
in the most vile of ways.
The count of the number of
youth who have died in motor
car accidents is beyond us.
More and Muslims are being
diagnosed with
life-threatening diseases
including the increasing
number of women who are
being afflicted with cancer.
Recently, many young people
have been struck by diseases
which have taken their lives
without even being
comprehensively identified
or diagnosed.
We are
summoned by Allah, in Surah
Ar-Rahman, to take note of
the many favours of Allah
upon us. Allah repeatedly
reminds us by asking us how
which of His favours will we
deny. We have not begun to
appreciate and be thankful
to Allah for all the favours
that He has blessed us with.
At the same time – call
it signs, warnings,
reminders – we must ask
ourselves; when will we
observe what is happening
around us and take heed to
the Message of the Qur’an
and the sunnah? How many of
the warnings of our Lord
will we ignore?
May
Allah Subhanahu wa ta’aala
open our eyes to the reality
that is staring us in the
face. May it be a means of
our repentance and changing
of our ways. Aameen.
